Nutrition is a very complicated field. While most people can read a few books and get the general idea of what to avoid, like trans fats, the finer points of nutrition can be extremely complicated. Even doctors receive very little training in nutrition.
Fortunately, some people in pharmacy positions also have training in the support of a nutritious personal meal plan and can help you make healthy decisions. Finding these professionals is often as easy as asking them. If a pharmacist knows a great deal about nutrition, they often carry certifications to prove it. If a particular pharmacist isn’t certified, he or she may not be able to provide the nutritional advice you seek and you’ll have to look elsewhere.
Many pharmacists know one another and can tell you who has the correct types of certifications to offer nutritional advice. If a pharmacist don’t personally know someone with the proper credentials, chances are they at least know of someone who carries a legitimate nutritional certification. Since pharmacists spend so much time in continuing education classes, the likelihood that your local pharmacist at least knows someone who is properly certified to administer nutritional support information is reasonably high.
With this knowledge, a pharmacist can tell you about a lot of potential food and medication interactions that most people would never see coming. When you find such a licensed pharmacist, don’t be afraid to use that resource often. They can be very helpful to you in meal planning that takes your medications into account.
